To me, the most important innovation shown off at the expo was electricity, as this would have been the first time many people had seen electric street lamps and electricity used in every day life. There was also an effort for countries on the outside looking into European power (US and Japan) to display their culture to the powerful countries of Europe. These innovations showed that the world was modernizing, especially concerning technology and luxury. Additionally, especially for the countries on the outside looking in, this fair was an opportunity to gain trading links.
