He kills his wife Megara and three of his kids while possessed by Hera, Zeus' goddess wife. Hercules is so remorseful, that he goes to King Eurystheus of Mycenae to complete 12 painful labors as penance. Hercules continues to do stupid things and then feel sorry about them. His wife, Deianira, ends up accidentally putting skin-burning poison on Hercules, so he commits suicide by throwing himself on a funeral pyre.
